Job ads rolling over

Job ads peaked in June

Job advertisements have peaked and looked to be rolling over in June, according to the Department of Employment's latest figures.

Victoria drove the decline with a 5 per cent fall in June, although to the extent this means that positions are actually being filled this may be a good thing.

New South Wales looks to be opting for a long lockdown so will almost certainly follow suit over the months ahead.

Job ads are 44 per cent above pre-COVID levels, so a decline was probably due at some point, but the strong recovery narrative is looking much shakier with Australia's most famous economic hub effectively closing up for business now.
