Plenty of people try to draw contrived comparisons between Japan and the UK, or Japan and Australia, or Japan and...well, just about anywhere that suits their narrative, to be honest.
Japan's economy was the original deflationary basket case which led other countries to do almost anything to avoid the same fate.
Japan also has an awkwardly top-heavy population pyramid, with both an ageing and shrinking population.
