There was surprise jobs report from the US overnight, with nonfarm payrolls increased by a lower than expected +73,000 in July, and revisions wiping an enormous -258,000 from the preceding two months. 

Suddenly it looks like hiring in the economy has stalled.

The unemployment rate rose modestly in July, to 4.2 per cent. 

There was a sudden 22 basis points drop in the 2-year bond yield, and investors appear to be deleveraging a little given the slightly alarming nature of the employment report, and Trump slapping a range of tariffs on trading partners to close out the week (including increasing import tariffs for many goods from Canada to 35 per cent). 

It's thought that the tariffs may increase US inflation, putting the Federal Reserve in a tricky position with regards to the setting of interest rates going forward.
