Iron ore exports balloon

Record cargo

Recent figures suggest that coal export volumes may have been temporarily disrupted by Cyclone Debbie.

Not so iron ore exports!

Pilbara Ports reported a record 44 million tonnes of iron ore cargo shipped from the Port of Port Hedland in the month of May 2017.

Iron ore cargo shipped was up 12 per cent from a year earlier, and was a record high.

This included a record tonnage shipped to China, at more than 38 million tonnes.

Total throughput of 44.7 million tonnes was also 12 per cent higher than a year ago.

This takes annual iron ore exports from Port Hedland to a record high too.

That's a lot of red dirt.
