US unemployment falls to 4.3pc

US recovery powers on

US employment increased again for a record 82nd consecutive month in July, up by +209,000.

Over the past 3 months payrolls gains have averaged +195,000.


The unemployment rate ticked down to 4.3 per cent.


Despite this low unemployment rate - and the longest unbroken spell of employment growth on record - average hourly earnings growth remains relatively subdued at +2.5 per cent.
