A big reading of 55.4 for AIG's manufacturing index (a reading of above 50 denotes expansion, so this was a strong result).

Since the figures came out during the Christmas break, it went largely unreported that the manufacturing sector added +102,000 jobs in the year to November 2016 - more than all of the the other sectors of the economy put together.
Perhaps not that surprisingly, therefore, the employment sub-index contracted suggesting that employment growth will slow, but six of the seven activity sub-indices improved from the preceding month.
