Job vacancies are sneaking up

Well, it's certainly a long slow haul but the Department of Employment figures are showing steady improvements in job vacancies, rising by a seasonally adjusted +8.8 per cent over the past year to 165,000.

New South Wales leads the way with 63,789 job vacancies which bodes well for further Sydney employment growth, while there have been year-on-year gains across New South Wales (+15.4 per cent), Victoria (+14.5 per cent), and Queensland (+6.3 per cent).

The labour market looks to be soft in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and South Australia on this measure.
