East coast swelters

A blistering heatwave across Australia's east coast.

Brisbane is getting off relatively lightly with 39 degrees today, after similar conditions yesterday (that's the moon in the photo below - bad camera, sorry).

Spare a thought for those in Western Sydney though, where the mercury hit 46.9 yesterday (Celsius, that is).

After a record 11 day stretch of temperatures above 35 degrees, New South Wales is facing the most catastrophic fire danger in its history.

Fire commissioners have warned that the fire danger ratings are "simply off the conventional scale".

Stay safe!
