ANZ released its Job Advertisements data series, which noted that:
"The unemployment rate now appears to be in a cyclical decline".
Total job advertisements rose by +1.0 per cent in the month and increased by +11.2 per cent over the year to January 2016, mainly driven by internet job ads, confirming the trend improvement in hiring intentions which has now been in place for 27 months.
Total employment increased by a huge +305,000 in 2015, although looking at the shape in the job advertisements chart suggests that some of this momentum may just now be fading.
As you can see in the chart above, job advertisements are now at their highest level in 3.5 years.
The strongest trends, perhaps unsurprisingly, have been found in New South Wales.
Overall the survey suggests modest continued employment growth in early 2016.
