Deloitte: Sydney Opera House now worth $4.6bn (cost $102m)

There were cost overruns when it was built, but it's now looking like a steal!

"The Sydney Opera House has called in the number crunchers to put a dollar value on Australia's most iconic asset and - ''now for the drum roll,'' chief executive Louise Herron says - that elusive number is $4.6 billion.

''Here is the number, this is what we're worth, don't take us for granted,'' Ms Herron says.

But it is a very conservative estimate, says Deloitte, whose study coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Opera House, which will celebrate that birthday on Sunday.

The house was completed in 1973 at a cost of $102m. It would cost $823 million to rebuild it today".
